Starting advocacy at org advice

My org is starting work on our next 3 year strategic plan and staff is being asked for input. We are a food pantry (serving 5k+ people/week) with other programs to help short/long term (e.g. utility assistance and financial literacy classes).

I would like us to do more advocacy with anti-poverty issues. We currently don’t do any, and I feel like if we want to create lasting change for our clients, we need to be speaking out/educating our community about issues like living wage, affordable childcare, healthcare, systemic racism, etc.

Does anyone have any experience adding advocacy work to their org? Any ideas on how to structure such a program? I hope I’m making sense…thanks in advance!
