Interviewing for roles centered around technical platforms

How does one prepare for a role that requires knowledge of voter databases or fundraising/development software without possessing either?

I've been trying to break into this field for suuuuuch a long time and have experience with salesforce (not NPSP) as an administrator, gained over the last few years. There are a set of interviews coming up for vacancies that are similar in a technical capacity but I'm not familiar in any of the platforms (think NGP VAN/EveryAction/Raiser's Edge/Donor Perfect/etc.) to confidently use it as a selling point.

Is there any way a candidate pursuing positions requiring relative expertise of the aforementioned to stand out? I would think that most relational databases are pretty similar but have no concrete examples for such.
