How to start getting involved in international engineering projects?

I graduated with a MechE BS in 2018 and have been looking to switch roles where I can do something helpful.

I currently work in medical device design for a large research university in the US. I do a fair amount of research level experimental implantable medical device design which involves a good deal of hands on fabrication.

I’d really be interested in getting involved in some useful international project, but many of the roles seem to be industrial design projects, which isn’t really my wheelhouse. I’m not sure where to start or what would be the best fit for me. What sort of roles should I look into?
