Does it make sense to hire a freelancer for social media marketing?

Hello everyone–

I currently work a nonprofit doing social media management and content creation. I'm really, really enjoying it! It's fun, I get to be creative, and I regularly get to see the fruits of my labor when our following and engagement go up. I also recently found out our marketing budget is a lot more than I ever would have guessed.

This got me thinking that maybe this is something other nonprofits would pay for as freelance work. In my mind, it would save them money because they wouldn't need to pay for an employee's benefits. Also, I'd do it as a monthly subscription kind of thing–they don't need to renew the contract if it's not in the budget or funding gets cut.

Is this something that makes sense/would be appealing to a nonprofit from a business standpoint?

Thank you.
