Are Development Associate jobs supposed to be slow paced?

I started a month ago as a development associate at a pretty large non-profit. Love it there. They are taking me slow with training to not throw a lot at me at once, but I'm used to working in super hectic, fast paced environments (corporate workplaces and in the entertainment industry) and I have the capacity to take on a lot. Yet I don't do anything for most of the day. I'm wondering if the pace will pick up, or in general are these positions at well-organized nonprofits slower paced roles? Of course know one can know because every organization is different, but just curious for outlooks.
